Best Fertility Oatmeal Recipe

Best Fertility Oatmeal Recipe

This nourishing oatmeal in the morning hits all of our favorite notes of fertility breakfast success. It is warm, filled with protein, fiber, and packed with fertility-boosting ingredients for a great start to your day. Either instant or old-fashioned oats (there are gluten-free options out there) will do the trick.

The general instructions for cooking oats on the stovetop are:

  • 1 cup of uncooked oats

  • 2 cups of water

  • A pinch of salt

Bring to a boil and then simmer until soft and most of the water is absorbed. You can make a bigger batch to save and reheat on the stovetop with your favorite milk substitute. This way you can save time in the morning.

Overnight oats are also popular. Just make sure to heat them up in a little alternative milk so they are warm when you eat them.

After you’ve cooked your oats, add your fruit and spices to the pot, stir, and put a lid on it to steam them up for a minute or two. The sweetness of the fruit gets dispersed throughout your oatmeal. It also warms and breaks down the fruit for easier digestion. An especially great trick if you use frozen fruit so you can warm them or bring them to room temperature.

Ingredients (approximate measurements).

Play around with the portions. For example, I enjoy ½-1 cup of cooked oats and a handful of chopped nuts as my base and then add fruit and spices to taste. Experiment with what tastes good, keeping in mind not to add too much sugar.

Single-serving portion

  • ½ - 1 cup of cooked oatmeal

  • ½ cup of fresh-cut fruit or berries

  • 1 tsp - 1 tbsp of goji berries or dried mulberries (these are Chinese herbs)

  • A handful of chopped walnuts, almonds, pecans, or cashews (or your favorite nut for protein)

  • ½ tsp cinnamon or other warming spices (I like a lot of cinnamon - scale back to ¼ tsp if it’s too much)

  • A small splash of vanilla extract

  • A splash to a cup of alternative nut or seed milk - oat, almond, hazelnut, cashew, hemp

  • Sprinkle with a few black or white sesame seeds or hemp seeds on top

  • Stir and enjoy!

I like to use ½ a cup of oats and add the same amount of nuts. Goji berries and mulberries are in the Chinese apothecary as sweet herbs that build blood and qi, which are essential building blocks for our body particularly for conception. I add just enough milk to make it stirrable but not soupy, but everyone is different on the ratio of milk to oats, so experiment and do what you love. The smallest splash of vanilla adds a sweetness that I love in place of adding sweetener to my oatmeal. Hemp seeds add a little extra protein punch. Sesame seeds are also Chinese herbs and are great for building what we can blood and yin in the body, adding great nourishment for your follicles and conception. Stock your pantry with these warming spices: cinnamon, cardamom, clove, ginger, and nutmeg; they’ll all help to warm up your digestion so that you can better absorb and use the nutrients that you take in.

My favorite combinations of fruit and spices are:

  • Apple and cinnamon

  • Pear and cardamom

  • Blueberry/raspberry/blackberry and cinnamon

  • Peach and cardamom

  • Mango and ginger
